      @georgia1288,

      Every drug is tested on humans. After they undergo many, many tests in animals (called pre-clinical testing), drugs are tested on humans. This is called clinical testing. Phase 1 testing is done using healthy volunteers, to see if there are any problems. Phase 2 is a small trial on patients with the disease. Phase 3 is a trial on many patients with the disease.

      I have been part of Phase 1 trials (sometimes as a guinea-pig, and sometimes as an investigator), and have analysed information from phase 2 trials.

      Hi Georgia, redcookie

      Anita is right every drug is tested on humans before it is considered safe to use. These clinical tests are either done in very low doses in healthy volunteers, or in some diseases such as cancer, they are tested in people that all other drugs have failed for

      Hi georgia1188

      Uhm well would i test something on a human that hasn’t been first tested on mice? No…because I would probably go to jail! lol.
      I think it would be too dangerous, but nice idea!

      This question reminded me of something I hear some people say a lot- that we should test on people in jail. But i think we should try to remember that not everyone in jail are monsters, some got there because they had a really bad, unfair life…should we punish them more by testing on them? I don’t think so.

      Thank you!! Hope you have a good day 🙂 I’ve really enjoyed your questions
