Hi there keirahughes, ellaferguson81 & elliedulieu
Ten years seems a long way away to me! Hopefully next year I will pass my PhD, and then I hope to become a post-doctoral research scientist. I would like to carry on working on drug discovery in lots of different diseases, and perhaps go and work in the U.S.A., Australia or Europe for a few years to get some experience of different cultures as well as different labs. One of the best things about being a scientist is the opportunity to travel around and see the world as part of your job.
I guess I would like to return to the UK after travelling, and would probably like to work as both a researcher and a lecturer at a university, as I really enjoy teaching as well. I’d also like to continue my volunteer work as a STEM ambassador bringing real life science experiments into schools like yours so that you get the opportunity to try the science that we do every day.
Hi Kierahughes,
I hope to be actively participating in the development and putting in place of health system that are effective in the prevention and management of diseases in developing countries.
I used to work in the hospital and I miss the direct contact I had with patitents. Sometimes, bench work can be disconnected to the real world. So, this way, I get to use my knowledge of the body in sickness and health from my first degree and combine it with the knowledge of my second one in public health to help other people come up with plans that enable them to prevent, treat and manage diseases better without costing governments too much.
Well, I need to get my own research group going. I need to get funding, not just for my own work, but for people that I can employ to do research with me (eg post-docs and research assistants) and people who are interested in learning about Scientific Research (eg students -undergraduate and post-graduate). Professorship if I can.
(I’m separating my professional plan from my Scientific plan – could go on for ever about that!)
I see myself doing brain surgery on humans! I want to switch from science to medicine, so that i can work directly with patients. At the moment I enjoy developing treatments, but eventually I want to be prescribing them and doing operations 🙂
I hope to be a full time lecturer. I love teaching chemistry and it’s where my career is going. I’m making lots of updates to the course I teach on and I’m hoping that gets recognised with promotions.
I hope I still stay involved in research through undergraduate projects and their related to medicines. I’m moving into new areas such as education research and I would like to be seen as a leading person in chemical education research.
