      Educate GPs!

      I agree with Anita, GPs need to be constantly educated, because some of them left university a long time ago, but science and our knowledge progresses fast, therefore they need to keep up to date.

      Also, educating everyone would help to! Let people know that it’s not a good thing to be taking loads of antibiotics all the time.

      Some great questions from you today! Yes educating GPs is very important from the perspective of over prescription. The problem is that the GPs have to be careful because not giving someone antibiotics that really needs them can land them in hot water so they’re in a tricky situation.

      It’s equally as important that the public are educated to know that if they are given antibiotics they MUST finish the course, even if they feel better. They also need to be taught that antibiotics will not cure all coughs and colds, so that they don’t pressure their GPs into prescribing medicines just because they think they should have them.
