The answer is no. Dry ice is made up of carbon dioxide only, so this means just one gas! As the dry ice changes from solid to gas, the pressure inside the test tube builds up, until it gets so much that the test tube explodes!
Another cool fact is that dry ice does not turn from solid to liquid to gas, it just goes straight from solid to gas!
Mind you, putting something ‘explosive’ into a test-tube is pretty risky – all that glass flying about. I have to say, though, it’s rather neat leaving a container full of dry ice pellets on the bench and coming back to find it quite empty!
