Antitoxins are antibodies that bind to harmful substances in the body and break them down. Our bodies have antibodies floating around (and a store of them which are sort of in “sleep mode”)- and if a toxin gets in our body they bind to it and break it down!
Or sometimes if we get a toxin in our body, doctors might give us extra antibodies to help stop the toxin from harming us!
Antitoxins are antibodies that neutralise toxins (such as those produced by bacteria), and can sometimes also kill bacteria. Antitoxins are currently used to treat diseases like tetanus and diphtheria.
Daryl and Anita have beaten me to the answer though 🙁 Anti-toxins are antibodies that bind to toxins to neutalise them. They are usually used to treat certain diseases caused by bacteria that produce toxins that make us unwell, such as tetnus.
