I found University hard as an undergraduate, not-so-hard as a postgraduate, crazy as a Post-doc lab worker! But I wouldn’t like life and work not to be a bit challenging.

I think that how hard you find uni depends on how you approach it. Work hard, but never forget to have some fun too!

      Yes and no

Yes because you are expected to be more independent with learning and do it yourself. If you don’t understand something in the lecture, it’s up to you to put in the effort to understand it. I found that hard at the beginning but my University understands that’s the case for most students. For my 1st year, the marks don’t count towards the final degree mark, you just have to pass (40% or above). By the second year I got used to being more independent and actually liked it more than learning in school because if you find something your interested in, you can learn about it more deeply.

      Hi Swagdouglas

I am still technically at university! My undergraduate at Edinburgh was the most fun I have ever had and I think if you are considering going to university you definitely should. Make sure you pick a subject that you enjoy, not one that you think you ‘should’ do. Whatever you choose that doesn’t have to be what you do after university – lots of people change their mind and that’s ok!

The work at university was sometimes hard, but making lots of friends who were doing the same thing made it ok. There are lots of people to ask for help, lots of support, and you can get involved in lots of things outside of work to give you a break. I played rugby whilst I was at university and ended up captain of the team.

      I hope this helps
      Amy

      Yes and no.

You get what you put in, you have to work hard but there are opportunities to play sport, join a society and to relax and make new friends from all over the world. They help to balance the demands of your actual degree workload and you meet some lovely people along the way…
